Andhra Pradesh braces for landfall of Cyclonic Storm Murasu

Five districts in Andhra Pradesh are on red alert as the storm approaches the coast for a predicted November 3 landfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Cyclonic Storm Murasu is expected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast during the early hours of November 3. The storm is projected to cross the coast between Nellore and Narsapur.

IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that the system is expected to hit the coastline on the morning of November 3. He noted that while it is currently forecast as a cyclonic storm, there is a slight possibility it could intensify into a severe cyclonic storm.

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) reported that central and southern coastal areas are likely to be affected. Five districts, including SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Bapatla, and Krishna, have been placed on red alert for November 2.

Authorities have identified 20 mandals at risk of extremely heavy rainfall. These include nine mandals in Eluru, five each in Krishna and NTR, and one in Bapatla.

The storm is expected to bring wind speeds of 100 to 110 km per hour, with gusts reaching 120 km per hour. Damage to electricity poles is anticipated across 12 districts.

This weather system arrives as the state recovers from Cyclone Arnab, which crossed the coast near Narsapur on October 28.
