Cyclone Murasu likely to hit Andhra Pradesh coast on November 3
The India Meteorological Department predicts the storm will cross between Nellore and Narsapur with wind speeds reaching 120 kmph.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday that a depression in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm named Murasu. The system is likely to cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur by the morning of November 3.
The weather agency stated the storm could reach severe cyclonic storm status, bringing wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph and gusts of up to 120 kmph. The system was reported to be moving west-northwestwards at 30 kmph.
IMD Director General Mohapatra noted that most parts of the country may experience above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall during November. He added that the system is currently expected to form into a cyclonic storm before potentially becoming a severe cyclonic storm.
Heavy rainfall is predicted for several regions. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 2, with isolated very heavy rainfall likely for Rayalaseema on November 2 and 3, and Odisha on November 3 and 4.
This weather system follows Cyclone Arnab, which impacted Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 28. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu previously visited affected areas in West Godavari district to assess damage caused by that cyclone.
