Centre approves Rs 988.75 crore for 39 road projects in Kerala
Construction of 486.33 km of roads is scheduled to begin in December under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund scheme.
The Union Government has sanctioned Rs 988.75 crore for 39 road development projects in Kerala, according to ThePrint. State Public Works Minister P K Basheer said on Saturday that work is expected to start in December.
The funding, provided through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme, will cover 486.33 km of roads. Of this amount, Rs 570 crore is designated for projects in the Malabar region of north Kerala.
Minister Basheer stated that 21 projects will be carried out in the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram. These works include various types of district and Corporation roads.
The minister noted that the approval came after talks with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. While the state has already given administrative permission for the works, technical and financial clearances are still being finalised.
The new roads will be built to National Highway standards. Once finished, the projects are intended to enhance connectivity and improve the quality of urban and rural road networks across the state.
