Centre approves Rs 988.75 crore for 39 road projects in Kerala
Construction for 486.33 km of roads is scheduled to begin in December under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund scheme.
The Union Government has approved Rs 988.75 crore for 39 road development projects in Kerala, according to ThePrint. State Public Works Minister P K Basheer said on Saturday that construction is expected to start in December.
The funding, provided through the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme, will support the development of 486.33 km of roads. Of this amount, Rs 570 crore is designated for projects in the Malabar region of north Kerala.
Minister Basheer stated that 21 projects will be carried out across the districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Malappuram. These works include corporation roads, ordinary district roads, and major district roads.
The minister noted that the clearance came after talks with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. While the state government has already given administrative sanction, technical and financial clearances are still being finalised.
The roads will be built to National Highway standards. Once finished, the projects are intended to improve connectivity and the quality of urban and rural roads throughout the state.
