Man attacks Class 10 student with chainsaw in Andhra Pradesh school
A 21-year-old man was arrested after allegedly attacking a student with a chainsaw inside a classroom in Anantapur.
A Class 10 student was critically injured after a man allegedly entered a classroom with a chainsaw at Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu, Anantapur district, on Saturday. The accused, identified as Hemanth, reportedly attacked the girl during class, while another student, Lakshmi, was injured while trying to stop the assault.
The victim sustained serious injuries to her face, neck, abdomen, and head, with reports stating her right hand was nearly severed. She was moved to the Government General Hospital in Anantapur for emergency treatment. The attacker fled the scene but was later taken into custody near Dharmavaram.
Preliminary investigations suggest the accused is a distant relative of the victim and had been harassing her. It is alleged that the attack occurred because the girl had warned him to stop his advances and threatened to tell her parents.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock at the incident and directed officials to ensure the student receives the best medical care. He also ordered a fast investigation and strict legal action against the perpetrator.
Education Minister Nara Lokesh and Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha also condemned the act. Police have registered a case and are investigating how the man entered the school premises during ongoing repair work.
