Home Minister Chennithala visits family of Kochi accident victim

Ramesh Chennithala assured the family of Jayabalakrishnan that justice will be served regardless of the accused's status.

Keralam Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala visited the family of Jayabalakrishnan in Kochi on Saturday. The 55-year-old was killed on October 25 when a Mercedes-Benz, reportedly driven by the 17-year-old son of an Additional District and Sessions Judge, struck his scooter.

According to the Deccan Chronicle, Chennithala was accompanied by Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden, MLA T J Vinod, and Kochi City Police Commissioner R Nishanthini. The minister stated that the government is committed to the investigation and that the law applies equally to everyone, whether they are a judge or an ordinary citizen.

The victim's family previously alleged a conspiracy to undermine the case after the minor was initially granted bail at a police station. While the minor was later taken into custody following additional charges, he was subsequently granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board.

Chennithala noted that the family expressed satisfaction with the current investigation. He added that a Special Public Prosecutor would be appointed based on the family's preference to ensure strong prosecution in further proceedings.

Jayabalakrishnan's daughter, Bhadrakeerthi, said the family has received assurances from both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister. She stated that they have faith in these words and remain hopeful of receiving justice.
