Delhi Food Safety Department conducts 30 enforcement actions in two months

Eighty-five out of 290 food samples collected during the crackdown were found to be unsafe or substandard.

The Delhi Food Safety Department carried out 30 enforcement actions over the last two months to combat food adulteration in the national capital. During this period, officials found 85 of the 290 collected food samples to be unsafe or substandard.

Acting on instructions from Health Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh, the department focused on wholesale markets to inspect items such as ghee, paneer, khoya, and sweets. More than 4,000 kg of adulterated food was destroyed during the drive.

In Nihal Vihar, officials identified 12 unlicensed sweet-making units and destroyed approximately 400 kg of sweets. Inspections also covered restaurants, banquet halls, clubs, retail outlets, dark stores for online delivery, and food sellers on social media.

The department monitored hospital kitchens and checked fasting-related products like kuttu atta, samak rice, singhara atta, and sabudana during Navratri. Officials also responded to complaints from the Chief Minister's Jansunwai platform and inspected seven bakeries.

Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh stated that food safety is a priority for public health and warned that there would be no compromise. He added that vigilance would continue, particularly during wedding and festive seasons.
