Speculation grows over Dhanush entering Tamil Nadu politics

Actor Dhanush has urged fans not to believe rumours regarding his political entry following recent activities.

Speculation regarding actor Dhanush entering politics has increased following a meeting he organised for female fans at a private college on the outskirts of Chennai on October 25. During the event, Dhanush gifted hundreds of female fans silver lamps engraved with a lotus, which is the symbol of the BJP.

The actor's recent visit to Delhi, where he reportedly met leaders of the BJP, has also prompted interpretations of his political leanings. Congress leader Manickam Tagore claimed the BJP is attempting to cause confusion by bringing an actor into politics.

Tagore alleged that the BJP's Plan C was to bring an actor into politics. Meanwhile, some AIADMK leaders invited Dhanush to join the party under Edappadi K Palaniswami.

On October 14, Dhanush renamed his fan club to the Dhanush Welfare Movement. Director and welfare movement leader Subramaniam Siva clarified that the movement's flag is not new and has been in use for over a decade.

The Dhanush Welfare Movement reportedly plans to launch free air-conditioned tuition centres in all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu by January next year. The movement also intends to employ 3,000 legal advisors across the state.

Rajkumar Periasamy, director of the upcoming film OM, said Dhanush is passionate about cinema and stated he does not know anything about the actor's political aspirations. OM is scheduled for worldwide release on November 20, 2026.
