Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed leads ministers in military training

The Prime Minister stated that armed forces discipline can help develop stronger leaders to advance the country's development.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has enrolled his cabinet ministers and senior government officials in military training, according to BBC News. The training is being conducted at the Hurso military training centre.

Participants include Finance Minister Fitsum Assefa, Health Minister Mekdes Daba, and Speaker of the House of Federation Muferiat Kamil. Social media photos shared by the Prime Minister show him participating in exercises alongside deputy ministers and heads of government institutions.

Abiy said that military institutions provide lessons in teamwork, accountability, patriotism, discipline, and leadership. He stated that Ethiopia's goal of universal prosperity requires leaders who are intellectually capable, morally strong, and physically fit.

The Prime Minister noted that while soldiers have targets and civilians have goals, the objective for both is victory. He argued that merging military and civilian disciplines would help create a generation capable of reaching both.

It is not known when the training started or its expected duration. The training occurs as Ethiopia deals with security challenges in the Oromia, Amhara, and northern Tigray regions, alongside tensions with neighbouring Eritrea.
