IIM Calcutta alumna describes life after switching from McKinsey to Google
Jahnvi Singh says her move to Google has changed her work routine, travel patterns and personal time.
IIM Calcutta graduate Jahnvi Singh has shared how her career transition from McKinsey to Google has reshaped her professional and personal life, according to a Times of India report.
Singh said that while her role at McKinsey involved working with various clients and different problem statements, her position at Google focuses on a single business. She noted that while this can make work feel monotonous at times, it allows her to gain deep knowledge of one industry.
Her travel schedule has also changed. Singh stated that McKinsey required frequent domestic travel between cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Delhi. She now works out of the Google office in Gurugram and travels internationally for work two to three times a year.
Regarding workplace benefits, Singh compared the five-star hotels and dinners she experienced at McKinsey with the perks at Google. She mentioned that Google provides a pick-up and drop-off facility and a cafeteria with healthy food options.
The switch has also impacted her personal routine. Singh said she now works out five times a week, aims for 8,000 steps daily, and can make social plans with friends on weekdays without needing permission.
