Justice Anjaria unveils memoir of late Gujarat Advocate General Suresh Shelat
Supreme Court Justice N V Anjaria called the late legal professional his “professional father” during the book launch in Ahmedabad.
Supreme Court Justice N V Anjaria unveiled the memoir ‘Shri Suresh Shelat: A Legacy Remembered’ on Saturday in Ahmedabad, according to ThePrint.
The book chronicles the life and legacy of the late Suresh Shelat, who served as the Advocate General of Gujarat. The event at Thakorbhai Desai Hall was organised by Shelat’s daughter, Gujarat High Court Justice Vaibhavi Nanavati, and her family.
Justice Anjaria, who started his legal career in Shelat’s chamber, described Shelat as his “professional father” from whom he learnt the language of law. He noted that Shelat never criticised judges or made disparaging remarks about fellow lawyers or the institution.
Anjaria stated that Shelat's conduct serves as a lesson for the “neo-intellectualism” that tends to demean and denigrate institutions. Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta described Shelat as a “saintly lawyer” defined by integrity, character, and humility.
The launch was attended by Acting Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court Manash Ranjan Pathak, Gujarat Advocate General Kamal Trivedi, and cardiologist Tejas Patel.
