Leaked video of Congress leaders at Adoor police station sparks row

Footage showing Sreenadevi Kunjamma and Fenny Ninan at the station has led to allegations of political high-handedness in Kerala.

A leaked video showing Congress leaders creating a ruckus at the Adoor police station in Pathanamthitta has triggered a political controversy, according to The Hindu.

The footage, which went viral on social media on Saturday, shows a mob of over 20 people at the station between 10:15 pm and 12 am on July 11.

The visuals show the group barging into the station and assaulting a suspect in custody, including YouTuber Rajan Joseph, who was being brought to the station in a defamation case.

Sreenadevi Kunjamma, an elected member of the Pathanamthitta district panchayat, is seen confronting Mr. Joseph in the lock-up during the incident.

The Adoor police previously booked 20 persons for the assault, which resulted in injuries to at least one police officer, but no action has been taken against the accused.

CPI(M) area secretary S. Manoj accused the police of acting as a shield for Ms. Kunjamma and her gang, stating that the police allowed her access to the lock-up.
