Eight injured as lift crashes in Nalasopara residential building

The incident occurred on Saturday noon when a lift in a seven-storey building in Nalasopara West plunged at high speed.

Eight people sustained serious injuries after a lift crashed in a seven-storey residential building, Dhananjay Avenue, at Patankar Park in Nalasopara (West) on Saturday around noon, according to The Times of India.

The injured, including resident advocate Satish Bhondve and seven of his guests, were travelling from the fifth floor to the ground floor when the lift suddenly plunged at high speed.

Eyewitness Iqbal Mankiya said the occupants fell on top of one another inside the lift and several people suffered serious leg injuries.

Fellow residents rushed to the site after hearing a loud impact and broke open the lift door to rescue the occupants before shifting them to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Nalasopara police visited and inspected the site after being alerted to the incident.

Housing society chairman Samir Dhonde said a spring mechanism had been installed in the lift as a safety measure. The three-year-old building was constructed by developers Dhananjay Raut and Rajiv Kotla of Sai Kiran Company.
