Los Angeles man builds multimillion-dollar plant business from 600-square-foot apartment

Brandon Hurst grew his business from Facebook Marketplace listings to selling 100,000 plants in 2026.

Brandon Hurst, a former administrative assistant in Los Angeles, has built a multimillion-dollar family plant business after losing his job during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to the Times of India, Hurst began reselling items on Facebook Marketplace in 2020 before deciding to sell inexpensive plants.

The business, which started from a 600-square-foot apartment, now generates millions of dollars in gross annual sales. In 2026 alone, the company has sold more than 100,000 plants. The operation now employs 24 people and processes approximately 1,000 orders a day.

Hurst expanded his reach through social media, building a following of more than 268,000 on TikTok. He began hosting livestreams on TikTok Shop on April 18, 2023, where he initially expected to sell 30 plants but instead sold 250 in three hours.

The company has since moved into a 3,000-square-foot greenhouse in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. Hurst, his husband Josh, and his mother transitioned to working the business full time within six months of starting.

Hurst recently changed his sales model to include auctions during livestreams rather than fixed prices. People reported that profits have tripled since he implemented this auction-based approach.
