Low pressure system in Andaman Sea may become depression

The India Meteorological Department expects the system to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast and bring rain to Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

A low-pressure area over the south and north Andaman Sea intensified into a well-marked low pressure at 5.30 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the system is currently centred near the southeast Bay of Bengal.

Manorama Mohanty, director of the meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar, said the system is moving in a west-northwestward direction. She stated it is likely to develop into a depression within the next 12 hours.

The system is forecast to move towards the Andhra Pradesh coast and may intensify further over the west-central Bay of Bengal around November 2. Experts noted that clarity on whether the system will become a cyclone or dissipate will only emerge after cyclogenesis occurs.

The weather system may bring light to moderate showers to many parts of Andhra Pradesh from November 2. Isolated showers are also predicted for Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1.

In Odisha, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in some districts. The system develops after the very severe cyclonic storm Arnab affected Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on the morning of October 28.
