Rahul Gandhi hints at revelation on CEC Gyanesh Kumar
The INDIA bloc passed a resolution to impeach Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during a mock Parliament session in Delhi.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday warned that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar would not survive in his position. Speaking at a mock Parliament session held by the INDIA bloc at the residence of Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi, Gandhi hinted at a possible revelation regarding Kumar.
The INDIA bloc unanimously passed a resolution to impeach the CEC. The resolution levelled six charges against Kumar, including allegations of electoral manipulation, deleting 13.2 crore voters through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), and rewriting Form 6 without Parliamentary oversight. It also accused him of seizing electoral rolls through ECINET, shutting out the other two election commissioners, and acting at the behest of PM Modi and Amit Shah.
Gandhi alleged that democratic institutions are being shut off to the Opposition, noting that leaders were forced to hold the discussion in a garden. He stated that Kumar is an instrument of the BJP and called him the first target.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra described the proceedings as a mockery of democracy and Parliament. He accused the Congress of spreading lies regarding alleged irregularities in the SIR of electoral rolls.
Patra also took a swipe at Gandhi, suggesting the Opposition make him its 'mock Prime Minister' for life. He rejected allegations regarding changes to Form 6 and accused Mallikarjun Kharge of lying on the issue.
