Congress attempts to reach out to Abhijeet Dipke and CJP
The Congress party invited Cockroach Janta Party leader Abhijeet Dipke to a high tea hosted by Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress party attempted to reach out to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke on Tuesday, according to The Indian Express. The outreach involved an invitation to a high tea hosted by Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for student leaders, civil society representatives and INDIA bloc leaders.
The invitation follows a shift in approach by the Congress. On Monday, Rahul Gandhi stated during a press conference that all protests against the CEC are part of one single protest and that the party will support anyone protecting the Constitution.
Sources said the Congress urged lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan to act as an intermediary to contact Dipke. While a request was made, sources close to Bhushan said Dipke was in Maharashtra and other senior CJP leaders, including Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and Ajinkya Shinde, were in police custody.
Congress sources claimed contact was made but Dipke was not enthusiastic. The CJP had previously stayed away from an INDIA bloc march to the Supreme Court on Monday.
Abhijeet Dipke replied to a post by Rahul Gandhi on X, thanking him for speaking out against the arrest of Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. Dipke also called for Tiranga marches and asked people to gather at Central Park in Delhi on Friday, October 16.
