Man attacks two schoolgirls with chainsaw in Andhra Pradesh classroom
A 21-year-old man was arrested at a railway station after attacking two Class 10 students in Anantapur.
A man attacked two Class 10 schoolgirls with an electric tree-cutting chainsaw inside a classroom at Raptadu Zilla Parishad High School in Anantapur district on Saturday.
The accused, identified as Hemanth, also known as Dummu, was arrested by police at Dharmavaram railway station. He is reportedly a distant relative of one of the victims and was living with his sister's family in Raptadu.
The attack occurred during a mathematics class while construction work was being carried out on the school premises. School principal K Rajeshwari said staff and security allowed the man entry because they assumed he was a construction worker.
One girl is in critical condition and is undergoing surgery at Anantapur Government General Hospital, while the second girl, who suffered injuries to her arms and legs, is receiving treatment. Anantapur Rural Sub-Divisional Police Officer K Ashwin Manideep said a case has been registered.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said he was deeply shaken and enraged by the attack. He stated that attackers who target young girls inside schools have no place in society.
Naidu said he is personally monitoring the recovery of the injured student and has directed the medical team to provide the highest priority care. He also ordered police to ensure the harshest legal punishment is delivered swiftly.
