The body of 72-year-old Ajit Kaur was discovered in a Ceres canal by an irrigation district employee on October 24.
The body of a 72-year-old Punjab-origin woman who had been missing for two months was found in a canal in California, according to the Hindustan Times.
Ajit Kaur had been missing since August 23, after she left her home at the Casa Grande Apartment complex in Ceres. She was last seen wearing a peach salwar suit with a dupatta.
An employee of the Turlock Irrigation District found the remains on October 24 while patrolling the Lower Lateral 3 Canal near Central Avenue and Keyes Road. The Ceres police department said the body was identified on October 27 by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
During the investigation, police stated they believed Kaur may have entered the Turlock Irrigation District canal located east of her apartment complex. The department had previously requested assistance from the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, which provided a K9 trained to track missing persons.
Officers and detectives had conducted efforts to locate Kaur, including canvassing canal areas and searching for surveillance footage. Further investigation into the death is currently underway.
