Delhi-NCR industrial units without pollution control devices face closure
The Central Pollution Control Board has directed state boards to take action against 2,300 industries failing to meet emission norms.
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has directed that industrial units in Delhi-NCR failing to install air pollution control devices (APCDs) face closure or show-cause notices, according to The Indian Express.
The order, issued on October 30, instructs the pollution control boards of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee to act against non-compliant units.
The directive targets approximately 2,300 industries across 17 highly polluting categories, including metals, textiles, and food processing, to meet particulate matter emission norms set by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).
The CPCB stated that units failing to provide satisfactory evidence of placing work orders for installing or retrofitting APCDs within five days should receive closure directions.
These units must remain closed until work orders are placed and a compliance timeline is submitted and accepted by the Board.
The CPCB has developed a dedicated portal to track compliance and directed that devices be installed only through National Productivity Council-empanelled vendors.
