Pinarayi Vijayan criticises police action and cyber attacks against students

The Leader of the Opposition called the police response and cyber attacks against an SFI activist undemocratic and inhuman.

Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan has described cyber attacks against a Students Federation of India (SFI) activist and police actions against students as undemocratic and inhuman, according to The Hindu.

Vijayan stated in a Facebook post that supporters of the Congress and Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) carried out cyber attacks against SFI activist Nafeesathul Misri. The activist had raised questions before Higher Education Minister Roji M. John at Maharaja’s College.

The Leader of the Opposition also alleged a state-sponsored witch-hunt by the police, claiming students are being arraigned as accused. He said such a declaration of war on students would face strong protests.

Vijayan claimed the Minister remained indifferent when a Sangh Parivar nominee was appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University. He also noted that RSS sympathisers were placed in the Senate and Syndicate, and 32 RSS affiliates were appointed to various Boards of Studies at Calicut University.

The post further alleged that the Minister, who is also a local MLA, facilitated anti-student actions by the current Vice-Chancellor of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. Vijayan said the government is showing double standards in its police response.

Vijayan noted that no case was registered when Sangh Parivar activists humiliated the Minister for Local Self-Government. However, he claimed the police quickly invoked non-bailable charges against students who raised questions before a Minister.
