More than 1,500 people join Pink Promise marathon in Mysuru

The breast cancer awareness event featured 3K, 5K and 10K categories to highlight the importance of early detection and regular screening.

More than 1,500 participants, including senior citizens, children and cancer survivors, took part in the ‘Pink Promise 2026’ marathon in Mysuru on Saturday. According to The Hindu, the event was organised by Bharath Hospital and Institute of Oncology (BHIO) in association with Mysore Run Club and Ask Mysuru.

The marathon began near the Kote Anjaneya Swami Temple close to the Mysore Palace. Held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month under the theme ‘Every Story Is Unique. Every Journey Matters’, the run included 3K, 5K and 10K categories.

BHIO medical superintendent Dr. Y.S. Madhavi said awareness efforts should provide people with knowledge instead of causing fear.

She also noted that maintaining good health involves a positive mindset, nutritious food and consistent physical activity.

JSS Hospital director Dr. C.P. Madhu said many women still visit hospitals with advanced-stage breast cancer despite ongoing awareness campaigns.

She stated that outcomes could be improved through timely treatment and early detection.

BHIO chief operating officer Gowtham Dhamerla encouraged women to get regular screenings and consult doctors if they notice unusual changes. He also requested support for underprivileged patients through individual donations and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Automotive Axles president and whole-time director Nagaraja Gargeshwari said a collaboration between his organisation and the hospital has helped over 40 patients with surgeries and post-operative care. Actor Krishi Tapanda also attended the event and spoke about making fitness a daily habit.
