Rahul Gandhi calls for march to Ramlila Maidan on November 1

Delhi Police say no permission has been sought for the proposed walk from Connaught Place.

Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Saturday called for a march in New Delhi on Sunday before a scheduled INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan. Gandhi announced via X that the walk will start at the Minto Road junction near Connaught Place at 12 noon, proceed through Ajmeri Gate, and end at Ramlila Maidan.

Delhi Police sources stated that no application has been submitted for a march starting from Connaught Place. They noted that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita is active across New Delhi, including near the Election Commission, which limits public assemblies. The police also mentioned that Jantar Mantar is no longer a designated protest site.

Gandhi invited various groups, including journalists and civil society members, to the march. He alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is attempting to prevent people from travelling to Delhi for the rally.

Separately, INDIA bloc leaders will hold a public impeachment programme against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at 3.30 pm on Saturday. The event will take place at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at 10, Rajaji Marg.

The impeachment programme was moved from Friday to Saturday due to rain. Gandhi said the decision was made by consensus to ensure senior leaders were not inconvenienced by the weather.
