Rajasthan IPS officer placed on APO amid villa purchase probe

The Rajasthan government has placed IPS officer Prashakha Mathur on awaiting posting orders during an investigation into alleged property acquisitions.

The Rajasthan government on Saturday placed IPS officer Prashakha Mathur on awaiting posting orders (APO) as the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigates alleged property purchases. According to reports from Hindustan Times, Mathur was removed from her role as additional director general of police, planning, modernisation and welfare.

The action follows the October 29 removal of her husband, 1993-batch IAS officer Shikhar Agrawal, who was also placed on APO. The state government has authorised a detailed ACB investigation under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act into allegations that Agrawal misused his official position to benefit Goyal Fashions Pvt Ltd.

The company operates hotels and resorts under the Ananta brand. The ACB is looking into claims that Agrawal and his family acquired approximately 40 villas and cottages from the firm at prices significantly lower than market rates.

Preliminary findings suggest Agrawal and Mathur allegedly bought 10 villas each at the Bujhda resort in Udaipur for Rs 15 lakh apiece in March 2026. At the Ajabgarh resort in Alwar, eight villas were reportedly purchased in the couple's names for Rs 16.5 lakh each.

Other properties were allegedly bought in the names of their two sons for about Rs 15 lakh each, and four villas were registered to Agrawal's in-laws for approximately Rs 16.5 lakh each. The ACB is also examining whether the finance department's concessional package to the company on March 27, 2026, coincided with the registration of the Udaipur villas.
