RGUHS seeks collaboration with NITI Aayog on health policy and economics

Vice-Chancellor Bhagavan B.C. stated the university aims to support evidence-based policymaking and strengthen India's healthcare system.

The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is looking to collaborate with NITI Aayog regarding health economics and health policy formulation, according to The Hindu.

Vice-Chancellor Bhagavan B.C. said the university intends to use its research capabilities, academic expertise and healthcare insights to support evidence-based policymaking.

Dr. Bhagavan noted that health economics is crucial for shaping a sustainable healthcare system by addressing resource allocation, affordability, accessibility, healthcare costs and the economic impact of health interventions.

The university will also place special emphasis on introducing and developing specialised training programmes for caregivers to improve the quality of patient care, the Vice-Chancellor said.

NITI Aayog member R. Balasubramaniam highlighted that elder care is a major challenge for India because of its growing ageing population.

Balasubramaniam observed that India is not yet adequately prepared for the caregiving and healthcare needs of senior citizens, noting a gap between existing services and the needs of the elderly.
