Aakash Chopra questions decision to drop Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for T20I
The former India opener suggested the teenager return to domestic cricket if he is only used as a stand-in for injured players.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra has questioned the decision to drop Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the fourth T20I against New Zealand, according to The Times of India.
Sooryavanshi played in the second and third T20Is after Ishan Kishan was sidelined by an injury, scoring 4 and 45 in those matches.
Chopra suggested that if the teenager is unlikely to receive regular opportunities in the playing XI, he should return to first-class cricket to gain match experience.
The former cricketer stated that if Sooryavanshi is only played when a player is injured or unavailable, the management could send him home to play domestic cricket.
Chopra noted that the fourth T20I was a dead rubber and called on the team management to clarify their roadmap and philosophy regarding the youngster.
In the fourth match, Ishan Kishan returned to the side but was dismissed for a duck as India finished at 172/9 while chasing a target of 260.
