SAD president criticises AAP candidate list for Punjab elections
Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party showed disregard for Khalsa Panth sentiments by fielding certain candidates.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding its first list of 40 candidates for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
Badal claimed on X that the party demonstrated a total lack of respect for the sentiments of the Khalsa Panth. He questioned the selection of Manwinder Singh Giaspura, stating that Sri Akal Takht Sahib had declared him 'tankhaiya'.
The SAD president also challenged the decision to field Sanjeev Arora from Ludhiana West. Badal alleged that Arora is currently in jail following his involvement in a major corruption case.
Badal stated that fielding such individuals suggested AAP was preparing for a period of misrule that would be worse than the last five years.
AAP announced the list on Saturday during a Political Affairs Committee meeting at the residence of National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. The list includes Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann from Dhuri and Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkapura.
The meeting was attended by Kejriwal, Bhagwant Mann, Manish Sisodia, and Finance Minister Harpal Cheema. Arvind Kejriwal posted his best wishes to the candidates on X.
