Chief Minister Manik Saha inaugurated the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme to mark the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Saturday at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala. The Chief Minister was inaugurating the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme to mark Patel's 151st birth anniversary.

Saha described Patel as a symbol of national integrity, solidarity and unity. He noted that Patel was known as the Iron Man of India for his steadfastness.

The Chief Minister stated that Patel integrated 562 princely states into India between 1947 and 1949. He said this difficult task was achieved through the decisive steps taken by Patel.

The event included the reading of a pledge and a Unity Run that moved from Swami Vivekananda Maidan to Umakanta Mini Stadium. Saha noted that Rashtriya Ekta Diwas has been observed across the country since October 31, 2014.

Saha said the celebration aims to bolster national unity and encourage citizens to safeguard the country's integrity. He added that India's strength lies in its unity despite diverse languages and cultures.

Scheduled Caste Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das, MLA Antara Sarkar Deb, and MLA Minarani Sarkar were among the officials present at the event.
