Ujjain administration demolishes 11 houses for Simhastha 2028 preparations

The total number of demolished houses in Begum Bagh has reached 83 as authorities widen the Hariphatak Over-bridge and temple route.

The district administration demolished 11 houses in Begum Bagh along Mahakal Temple Road in Ujjain on Saturday morning. According to the Free Press Journal, the action is part of preparations for Simhastha 2028 to facilitate the widening of the Hariphatak Over-bridge and construction along the temple route.

The Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) used JCB and Poclain machines for the operation. A joint team consisting of UDA, Municipal Corporation, and police officials was present during the drive.

UDA estate officer Jeevanlal Moghi said the structures obstructed the proposed widening. He stated that the residents had been informed beforehand and given time to remove their belongings after their plot leases were cancelled.

The UDA alleged that the 45 residential plots, originally allotted on 30-year leases, had lease conditions violated through commercial use and subdivision into smaller portions. The authority said the leases expired about 15 years ago.

Demolitions were previously suspended due to pending litigation and an interim court stay. The UDA initiated the removal process following the recent expiry of that stay.

This was the seventh major demolition operation by the UDA in Begum Bagh. With the 11 houses removed on Saturday, the cumulative number of demolished houses has reached 83.
