Abhishek Sharma has all the qualities of a leader, says Yuvraj
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh suggested that Abhishek Sharma could lead the national team and deserves an ODI opportunity.
Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has stated that Abhishek Sharma possesses the necessary traits to lead the national team in the future. Yuvraj, who has mentored the left-handed batter, noted that Sharma encourages younger players in state cricket.
Yuvraj told Cricbuzz that Sharma's habit of motivating teammates, such as Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is a sign of a senior leader. He added that captaining an IPL side could provide the confidence required to lead India.
Abhishek was named vice-captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this year. Ishan Kishan captained the side during the first half of the tournament while Pat Cummins was absent.
Yuvraj also supported the inclusion of Sharma in the Indian ODI squad based on his consistent white-ball performances. He noted that while competition for places is high, Sharma needs an opportunity to showcase his talent in the 50-over format.
The former all-rounder suggested that Sharma might need to contribute more with bowling and fielding to secure his spot. He cited Sooryavanshi as an example of a player who earned a place in the T20 squad through performance.
