Students should apply science to real life, says BARC scientist

Sharad C. Srivastava urged Mysuru students to move beyond textbooks to foster innovation and creativity during a science fest on Saturday.

Students in Mysuru must look past their textbooks and use scientific ideas in practical settings to encourage creativity, according to a press note from The Hindu.

Sharad C. Srivastava, Senior Scientist and Project Director at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mysuru (RMP), made these remarks on Saturday.

Srivastava was speaking at the inauguration of the Interschool Science Fest 2026, which was organised by St. Joseph’s Central School, Vijayanagar.

He noted that hands-on learning is vital for building problem-solving skills and a scientific temper. He also said that thinking outside the box is becoming more important as people often stick to established practices instead of exploring new ideas.

The event included 298 students from 22 schools. Participants competed in junior and senior categories through working model and quiz competitions.
