A depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday, according to The Hindu. The system, which may be named Murasu, is likely to reach the westcentral Bay of Bengal near south Andhra Pradesh by the early hours of Tuesday.
The weather system is expected to bring isolated heavy rainfall to the north coastal districts of Cuddalore, Tiruvallur and Villupuram between Monday and Tuesday. However, widespread rainfall in Tamil Nadu may not arrive until November 8.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director-General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that southern States, including Tamil Nadu, are likely to see above normal maximum and minimum temperatures in November. He also noted that very strong El Nino conditions are expected to persist during November and December.
The IMD has forecast that November rainfall in Tamil Nadu will likely be below normal. Rainfall across the entire southern peninsula is expected to be around 77 per cent of the long period average of 118.7 mm.
V.R. Durai, Head of the Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, RMC, said that northeasterly winds are returning to Tamil Nadu as Cyclone Arnab loses strength. This is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to north Tamil Nadu and interior districts until November 3.
