Delhi CM approves 2,345 additional posts in Delhi Fire Service
The restructuring will increase the department's sanctioned workforce strength from 3,096 to 5,441.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved the creation of 2,345 additional posts in the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) on Saturday, according to The Hindu. This move marks the first major cadre restructuring for the department since it was established in 1942.
The sanctioned workforce strength will increase from 3,096 to 5,441. The new posts will be distributed across various ranks, including Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Divisional Officer, Assistant Divisional Officer, Station Officer, Sub-Officer, Leading Fireman, and Fire Operator, as well as peons and gardeners.
Gupta said the decision aims to strengthen firefighting and rescue capabilities due to the city's growing population, high-rise buildings, and expanding urban areas. She noted that the department's responsibilities include responding to accidents and other emergencies in addition to firefighting.
The Chief Minister stated that adequately trained manpower and a strong leadership structure are essential for protecting people and property during disasters. She said every minute matters in the event of a fire.
Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood said the restructuring would provide a stronger institutional foundation and improve the ability to respond to emergencies. The government has not specified a timeline for filling these new positions.
