Delhi: Bus fares may rise 15-20 per cent as vehicle restrictions begin

Transporters warned that banning non-BS-VI vehicles registered outside the capital could disrupt essential goods supplies and increase transportation costs.

Delhi will bar the entry of non-BS-VI petrol and diesel vehicles registered outside the capital from Sunday under its Winter Action Plan, according to The Indian Express.

Bus operators warned that the reduction in available buses could push ticket prices up by 15-20 per cent during the festive season.

Gurmeet Singh, owner of Highway Travels, said the ban will lead to enormous losses as buses with tourist permits will not be exempt.

Singh, who operates 450 buses, noted that around 50 of his buses will be unable to enter the city.

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) stated that around 2.5 lakh goods carriers could be affected by the restrictions.

AIMTC president Harish Sabharwal said the industry is already grappling with rising operational costs, taxes and toll charges.

Transporters warned that the movement of perishable goods, including milk, poultry, and eggs, could face disruption, potentially increasing consumer prices.
