Delhi traders claim Rs 10,000 crore loss after INDIA bloc rally
Chamber of Trade and Industry Chairman Brijesh Goyal said 2.5 lakh shops remained closed due to the rally.
Delhi's trading sector faced estimated losses of between Rs 10,000 and Rs 11,000 crore following disruptions from the INDIA bloc rally at Ramlila Maidan, according to Moneycontrol.
Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) Chairman Brijesh Goyal said on Sunday that approximately 25 major markets near the venue were affected. He stated that about 2,50,000 out of nearly 3,00,000 shops remained shut because of panic regarding the expected influx of people and vehicles.
Goyal noted that the movement of customers and suppliers from surrounding towns was impacted, claiming that 3 lakh to 4 lakh people who typically visit the capital for business did not arrive. He also said about 5,000 vehicles, including trucks and small tempos, could not operate, which disrupted the transport of goods to Old Delhi and Central Delhi markets.
The chairman added that even where shops were open, sales were almost non-existent. He highlighted that these losses occurred during the peak Diwali season, with Dhanteras shopping scheduled for four days later.
The Automotive Parts Merchant Association (APMA) had previously warned of significant financial damage. APMA President Vinay Narang told ANI that the rally's timing and venue would choke major wholesale hubs like Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate.
