EPFO launches WhatsApp service for PF balance and passbook details

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced WhatsApp services and automatic settlement for inoperative accounts on the organisation's 74th Foundation Day.

Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched WhatsApp-based services for Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers on Sunday, according to reports by The Times of India, The Tribune and The Indian Express.

The new verified WhatsApp service allows subscribers to check their provident fund balance, view their passbook and see their five most recent transactions. The platform will also provide personalised help for requirements related to the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY).

The ministry stated that these digital tools aim to make routine tasks easier to access via mobile and decrease the necessity for members to visit EPFO offices. The launch took place during the 74th Foundation Day celebrations of the organisation.

Mandaviya also introduced an automatic settlement facility for eligible inoperative EPF accounts. Subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inoperative accounts holding balances up to Rs 1,000 will not need to file individual claims to receive their dues.

The EPFO will start the settlement process automatically once identity and bank account verifications are complete. This initiative is expected to benefit approximately one lakh accounts, involving around Rs 5 crore.

The minister noted that the EPFO has built a corpus of Rs 32 lakh crore through contributions from more than eight crore members. He encouraged staff to prioritise improvements for workers as the organisation nears its 75th year.
