HMDA starts supplying treated water for Telangana Secretariat landscaping

The initiative uses green tankers to replace 1.5 lakh litres of freshwater daily for gardening at the Secretariat.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) began supplying treated water via green tankers for landscaping at the Telangana Secretariat on Sunday, according to Telangana Today.

HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy flagged off the specific water tankers for the project. This move replaces approximately 1.5 lakh litres of freshwater used daily for gardening at the Secretariat.

The treated water is also being utilised for the landscape garden at the Greenlands Guest House in Begumpet, which is the official residence of the Telangana chief secretary. This replaces about 30,000 litres of freshwater every day.

Officials from HMWSSB and HMDA stated that the steps aim to conserve freshwater, promote wastewater reuse, and encourage environmentally responsible practices in public areas.

A press release noted that the Secretariat has adopted treated wastewater for landscape maintenance to set an example for other government institutions and public establishments to use water recycling.
