INDIA bloc targeting constitutional institutions to mislead people, says Tripura CM
Chief Minister Manik Saha accused the opposition of attempting to create distrust in the Election Commission and the Supreme Court.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday accused the Congress-led INDIA bloc of undermining constitutional institutions, including the Supreme Court and the Election Commission. Speaking at a rally in Agartala, Saha alleged that the opposition's resistance to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was intended to mislead the public.
According to The Hawk, Saha stated that the country is progressing under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership. He said the opposition is trying to foster distrust in constitutional bodies and is using protests and political campaigns because they have failed to win elections.
The Chief Minister supported the SIR exercise, noting that the Election Commission has the authority to update voter lists to maintain accuracy and ensure fair elections. He claimed the opposition is questioning the process despite observations made by the Supreme Court regarding the Election Commission's powers.
State BJP president Abhishek Debroy also criticised the opposition's stance on the SIR exercise. Debroy claimed that similar revisions were carried out multiple times under previous Congress-led governments and argued that updating rolls is necessary to remove deceased or relocated voters.
Debroy alleged that the Congress and CPI (M) have partnered to challenge the BJP in Tripura. The rally on Saturday was organised by the BJP as part of its "Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy" campaign.
