Delhi to enforce winter pollution control measures from November 1
The government will ban non-BS-VI vehicles registered outside the capital and cap office attendance at 50 per cent.
The Delhi government will implement several winter pollution-control measures starting November 1, according to reports by The Tribune and The Hindu. The restrictions include a ban on non-Delhi-registered vehicles complying with BS-IV or older emission standards from November 1 to January 31.
Exempt from the vehicle ban are electric and CNG vehicles, ambulances, fire tenders, and police vehicles. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the focus will initially be on checking vehicle entry at borders.
Dust-generating demolition and outdoor civil construction activities are prohibited from November 1 to January 31. A more stringent ban on all construction and demolition activities, barring specific exemptions, will be enforced between December 10 and January 20.
Government and private offices must implement a 50 per cent cap on physical attendance from November 1 to January 31, with the rest working from home. To reduce congestion, Delhi Government offices will operate from 10 am to 6.30 pm, while Municipal Corporation of Delhi offices will work from 8.30 am to 5 pm.
Parking charges at authorised facilities will double from November 1 to February 28, though Delhi Metro Rail Corporation parking lots are exempt. Enforcement will involve automatic number plate recognition cameras and an AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre to monitor violations and generate e-challans.
