Indiana girl sells slime to fund school trip
Lexi Long gained over eight million online views after starting a business to pay for a class visit to Washington, DC.
Lexi Long, an eighth-grade student at Schmucker Middle School in Indiana, United States, began selling slime and squishy toys on October 1 to fund a class trip to Washington, DC. According to the Times of India, the teenager reached her required amount within nine days but continued selling her products as interest grew.
The student's Facebook page, Slime & Squish, attracted more than 21,000 followers and six million combined views by October 24. By October 30, the page had surpassed 30,000 followers and eight million views.
Long said she wanted to participate in the trip, which students at her school hear about in elementary school. She noted that making crafts is a fun way to express oneself.
Her mother, Jennifer Long, said Lexi has always been a go-getter who works towards the things she wants. Long previously started a small venture at age four to buy an American Girl doll.
Lexi has sold her creations at community events and local businesses, including the frozen yoghurt shop Urban Swirl & Scoop. The shop's owner, Chrissy Harper, told WNDU that even University of Notre Dame football players have participated in making squishies at the shop.
