Ishan Kishan becomes third-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 T20I runs

The batter surpassed Suryakumar Yadav's record for most runs by an Indian in a single calendar year.

Ishan Kishan reached the 2,000-run milestone in T20Is on Sunday during the fifth match against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton, according to the Times of India.

The 28-year-old scored 61 runs from 32 balls, including five sixes and five fours, to complete the landmark in his 69th innings.

Kishan is the third-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 runs in terms of balls faced, requiring 1,345 deliveries. He follows Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in that category.

The batter also broke the record for most T20I runs by an Indian in a calendar year. His 2026 tally of 1,220 runs exceeded the previous record of 1,164 runs set by Suryakumar Yadav in 2022.

Kishan's innings helped India recover from an early collapse after Abhishek Sharma was dismissed by Adam Milne in the second over. He shared a 107-run partnership for the third wicket with Shreyas Iyer.

India finished their innings at 191/8. The team had already secured an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series before the final game.
