Kalaburagi master plan focuses on investment and jobs, says Priyank Kharge
Home Minister Priyank Kharge said the state government aims to transform Kalaburagi into a smart and sustainable city.
Home Minister and Kalaburagi district in-charge Priyank Kharge said the state government has created a new master plan for the development of Kalaburagi. According to The Hindu, the plan focuses on attracting foreign investment, creating jobs, and improving urban infrastructure.
Speaking at Karnataka Rajyotsava celebrations in Kalaburagi city on Sunday, Kharge stated the goal is to turn the area into a sustainable and smart city. He said the landscape of Kalaburagi would change within the next two and a half years.
The Minister laid the foundation stone for civic works valued at ₹108.82 crore under various Kalaburagi City Corporation schemes. He noted that the master plan, announced last year, follows the Smart City model and results should be visible within two years.
Kharge said the government is prioritising skill development and employment for young people. He mentioned the Prabuddha Academy was established to assist youth with competitive exams, while the Kalaburagi Next Foundation was set up to encourage private-sector participation in development projects.
The Minister highlighted that Kalaburagi district contributes 1.9% to the state's GDP, compared to nearly 40% from Bengaluru. He said the government is looking at economic opportunities in textiles, electronics, and the Kalyana Karnataka Bio-Economy Mission to increase the district's economic share.
