Karnataka government aims to give official status to Kannada flag
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar plans to introduce a legal framework to hoist the yellow and red flag alongside the national flag.
Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Sunday that the state government intends to provide official recognition to the yellow and red Kannada flag. Speaking at a Karnataka Rajyotsava event in Bengaluru, Shivakumar stated that a legal framework would be created to allow the flag to be flown next to the national flag on government buildings.
According to the Deccan Herald, the Chief Minister plans to raise the matter during the upcoming legislature session in Belagavi. He noted that while the Cabinet had previously decided on this and requested recognition from the Union government, they had not received it.
Shivakumar said the goal is to have a state flag that represents the self-respect of Kannadigas, similar to the state anthem. He added that the flag conveys the culture, peace, and religious harmony of Karnataka.
The winter session of the Legislative Assembly is scheduled to take place at the Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi from November 30 to December 11.
The Chief Minister made these remarks during celebrations for the 71st Karnataka Rajyotsava. The event, organised by the Department of School Education and Literacy, marked the state's formation on November 1, 1956.
