West Bengal to establish magic school and museum
An advisory committee has been formed to oversee the proposed West Bengal School of Magic, Illusion and Performing Arts.
The West Bengal government plans to create a school for magic and a museum dedicated to the history of magic in the state, according to a report by Hindustan Times.
A senior state official said an advisory committee for the West Bengal School of Magic, Illusion and Performing Arts has been established. The committee held its initial meeting in Kolkata on Friday.
The state information and cultural affairs department is leading the initiative to set up the school. A museum focused on the history of magic in Bengal will be created alongside it, a state government statement said.
Renowned magician PC Sorcar (Jr) has been appointed as the chief advisor for the committee. Other magicians are expected to be added to the group.
Sorcar previously contested the Barasat Lok Sabha seat for the Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2014 Parliamentary elections. He lost that election to the All India Trinamool Congress candidate Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.
