Kollam-Kottayam MEMU service to be extended to Ernakulam

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has approved the extension of the MEMU service, according to Mavelikkara MP Kodikunnil Suresh.

The Railways is extending the Kollam-Kottayam MEMU service to Ernakulam after finalising the list of stops and the schedule. An official notification regarding the extension will be issued on Monday.

Mavelikkara MP Kodikunnil Suresh stated that Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has signed the file approving the stops and the schedule for the service.

The train is scheduled to depart from Kollam at 1.40pm and from Ernakulam at 5.25pm. The extension is expected to provide more travel options for passengers moving between Kollam and Ernakulam via Kottayam.

The move is expected to reduce the overcrowding seen on the Venad Express during evening hours. The decision has led to a political dispute, with leaders from the Congress and BJP claiming credit for the extension.
