Sharad Pawar to visit drought-hit Solapur and Dharashiv districts
NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar will assess water and fodder shortages in Maharashtra over the next two days.
NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar announced on Sunday that he will travel to drought-affected parts of Solapur and Dharashiv districts in Maharashtra. According to ThePrint, the visit aims to evaluate the situation and ensure aid reaches villagers and farmers.
Pawar told reporters in Baramati that drinking water and fodder are the most urgent requirements. He plans to visit Pandharpur taluka, followed by Solapur and Bhum-Paranda in Dharashiv district, accompanied by local MLAs.
In Solapur district, 135 water tankers are currently supplying 139 villages, with the Madha assembly constituency requiring 110 tankers. Pawar said he intends to meet people personally to understand their specific needs.
The leader also stated he would visit the Ujani dam area on Monday to investigate farmer concerns regarding an artificial intelligence project. He noted that water must be used judiciously to manage stocks from now until June next year.
Pawar mentioned that discussions regarding financial aid for farmers have been held with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union ministers. He urged political parties to avoid using the drought crisis for political purposes.
The former Union agriculture minister added that his family will not hold usual Diwali celebrations this year to focus on drought mitigation efforts.
