Security forces recover bodies of two abducted Kuki men in Manipur

The bodies of Paoginlal Hangshing and Tinginlun Chongloi were found in Kangpokpi district following a joint search operation.

Security forces recovered the bodies of two Kuki men in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Sunday, according to reports by Outlook and Hindustan Times. The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Paoginlal Hangshing and 21-year-old Tinginlun Chongloi.

The two men had been missing since October 28. Officials believe they were taken while they were in transit between Taphou and Hengbung villages.

A joint team including the Manipur Police, CRPF, Assam Rifles, CoBRA, and RAF conducted an extensive search operation along the SP Road, east of NH-2. This hilly stretch connects the Kangpokpi and Senapati districts.

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) had previously called for a total shutdown in Kangpokpi from October 29 to demand the unconditional release of the men. Police stated that combing operations will continue to find those responsible for the killings.

The recovery follows the death of three Kuki community members in a gunfight in Noney district. Manipur has experienced ethnic violence since May 2023, resulting in nearly 368 deaths and the displacement of around 66,000 people.
