Mudalur remains Tamil Nadu's first Christian settlement

The village near Sathankulam was established in 1799 by David Sundaranandan, the first Shanar to embrace Christianity.

Mudalur, located near Sathankulam in Thoothukudi district, is known as the first exclusive settlement created for newly converted Christians in Tamil Nadu, according to The Hindu.

The village was founded in 1799 by David Sundaranandan, who was the first Shanar to embrace Christianity and the first Shanar catechist in the erstwhile Tirunelveli district.

Some claim that Mudalur was the first Christian village in Asia and India.

The settlement features the Church of St. Michael and Other Saints, which was constructed in 1883. A cross sits atop the yellow tower of the church.

The village is also known for its Muscoth halwa.
