No security lapse during Edappadi K. Palaniswami visit, says Nirmal Kumar
Law Minister Nirmal Kumar maintained that the former chief minister received the prescribed level of protection during his Madurai visit.
Law Minister Nirmal Kumar denied reports of a security lapse during former chief minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s visit to Goripalayam in Madurai, according to the Deccan Chronicle.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Kumar stated that Palaniswami was provided the same level of protection as others entitled to it. He said the security measures were not reduced and stayed active until the evening.
Addressing power interruptions, the minister said the government is working to fix deficiencies in the electricity sector. He noted that the state is procuring new transformers and recruiting more personnel for the electricity board.
Kumar added that an inquiry will be held to find the reasons for power cuts and to implement corrective measures where needed. He also addressed a brief power interruption at the Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple during Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan’s recent visit.
The minister explained that the interruption lasted a few seconds while switching to a new generator that had been undergoing trial runs. He said power was then supplied via the generator.
Regarding the Vice-President's comment that a Tamilian could become Prime Minister, Kumar said he was unaware of the context of the statement.
