Union minister HD Kumaraswamy challenges Karnataka police over sting operation claims

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh alleged a mobile phone used in a sting operation was delivered to the minister's residence.

Union minister HD Kumaraswamy challenged Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh on Sunday regarding claims that a mobile phone used in a sting operation was delivered to his official residence. According to a report by The Times of India, the commissioner stated the device was purchased in Delhi's Karol Bagh and handed over to Prajwal Prasad at the minister's residence.

Commissioner Singh said the handover was allegedly carried out on instructions from Prasad, citing a statement from Ritesh Pandey. Pandey was arrested in New Delhi on October 24 and is the first accused apprehended in the case. Police said technical evidence supports parts of Pandey's account regarding the phone's purchase and delivery.

Responding to the allegations, Kumaraswamy told ANI that he would disclose his own statement on Monday. He questioned the commissioner's actions and the state government's handling of the investigation. The minister claimed that the government, the chief minister, and officials are unable to affect him and suggested they are attempting to protect certain individuals.

The investigation involves two videos containing allegations against former Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah that appeared on YouTube in September. Police said they have issued notices to Vinod Sharma and Prajwal Prasad, but both are currently absconding and have sought anticipatory bail.

Investigators are also verifying evidence of financial transactions between Pandey and Prasad. Commissioner Singh stated that police intend to oppose the bail applications and are continuing their search for the two men.
